JAMES MCDANIEL was born Sept. 2, 1781, in Dauphin, PA. He married Mary "Polly" MATTHEWS October 16, 1805 in Stroude's station, Clark Co., KY. She was born Abt. 1780 in NJ. James died in 1861 and is buried in Mechanicsburg Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Sangamon,IL. Mrs. Mary McDaniel died in 1845 in Sangamon county IL.
James moved his family from Clark Co., Ky (where he lived as a child) to Bracken county, KY. In 1838, the family moved to Buffalo Hart township, Sangamon county, IL.
Children of James MCDANIEL and Mary MATTHEWS:
- Jeptha MCDANIEL, b. Abt. 1805/1806, Stroude's station, Clark, Co., KY. Married Sarah in Bracken county, and came to Sangamon county with his father in 1838. They had one child in Kentucky and seven in Sangamon county. Mrs. Sarah McDaniel died in 1852, and Jeptha McDaniel died in 1856, both in Sangamon county.

- Mary MCDANIEL married William MATTHEWS, haD five children and lived in Buffalo Hart township.
- Martha MCDANIEL married Oliver MCDANIEL. See his name.
- John T. MCDANIEL unmarried, was a teacher.
- Luann MCDANIEL, b. March, 1810 Bracken,Co., KY., married Glover MATTHEWS d. August, 1855. They had eleven children. Luann, his widow lived in Buffalo Hart township in 1876.
- William M. MCDANIEL, b. Abt. 1819, Bracken,Co., KY married Nancy A. SMITH. They had two children before he died. She re-married after William's death. Her second husband also died and she was living near Riverton in 1876.
- Mary MCDANIEL, b. December 16, 1820, KY. She died in Sangamon county at age 27. She was married to Thomas ELLIOTT, and both died. .
